Tending to our community trees and park spaces

Bennett Arboretum Clean-Up

August 2024

Northville Tree Champions joined forces with the Northville High School Cross-Country Team for a clean-up event at Bennett Arboretum in Hines Park. The collaboration aimed to enhance the natural beauty of the arboretum while fostering community engagement and environmental stewardship.

Around 50 volunteers, including students, coaches, and local residents, gathered early in the morning equipped with garden tools, gloves, and their enthusiasm. The clean-up focused on clearing the walking trails by pruning low and dead tree branches and cleaning up downed branches, thus promoting a healthier and safer park. Participants received guidance from Northville Tree Champions members on proper pruning and clearing techniques and the significance of maintaining a clean environment.

The event not only improved the arboretum's landscape but also encouraged teamwork and camaraderie among the volunteers. By the end of the day, many stacks of debris had been collected, revealing the dedication of the community to preserving local green spaces. The partnership showcased the commitment of Wayne County, Northville Tree Champions and the Northville High School Cross-Country Team to promote sustainability and community involvement.
